Fukushige Bushuan Green Carved Round Bonsai Pot – Signed

Bushuan (Fukushige) | Japan | Glazed | Round | Green, heavy drip glaze, hand carved from a solid block of clay

This one's a little different from your typical wheel-thrown production pot. Fukushige carved this piece out of a solid block of clay — you can feel the intentionality in that decision before you even look at the glaze. The form is round with three carved feet, which gives it a grounded, almost sculptural stance that wheel-thrown pots rarely achieve. The green glaze runs heavy, dripping and pooling in a way that makes each piece genuinely one-of-a-kind. Where it breaks over the carved edges and feet, you get those nice contrast moments that collectors tend to obsess over.

Bushuan isn't a name that comes up constantly, and Fukushige's hand-signed pieces (rather than chop-marked) have a personal quality that reflects a maker confident in their work. At roughly 5" diameter, this sits in shohin territory — compact, but with enough visual weight from the glaze and carving technique that it doesn't disappear under a tree.
