Hand carved in Vietnam by Tuan Can from a single piece of dense root wood. The body is all flow and negative space - pierced, twisting root forms that move like water around the flat oval top, finished in a deep polished burgundy-black that catches the light along every curve. No two of these exist; the carver follows the root he is given.

The wood is remarkably dense and heavy for its size, so the stand sits planted and steady under a tree. At 11 inches tall it is built to raise a shohin or a small cascade up to eye level for formal display - the flat top surface measures 6.25 x 5 inches and takes a pot up to about 6 inches across. A sculptural stand that does half the display work before the tree ever goes on it.
