Koyo Ruri Blue Oval Bonsai Pot - 12.5" x 10" x 2.5" - Vintage Tokoname, Dark Clay
Details
Koyo | Tokoname, Japan | Glazed | Oval | Ruri blue over dark clay
Old Koyo, and this is the work the kiln is famous for - a deep, saturated ruri (lapis) blue glaze over dark clay. The color stays rich and even all the way around the pot, with the soft depth that only comes with age on these vintage pieces.
A straight-sided oval with a gently rolled rim and a clean, confident profile. At 12.5 inches it is a strong size for a feature planting, and ruri Koyo ovals in this size do not turn up often.
Condition is honest vintage: there are small chips at the feet, shown clearly in the bottom photos. They do not show once the pot is planted and sitting, but they are there - and they are why this one is priced where it is. The maker's stamp is on the base, alongside one large drainage hole and four wire holes.
Pairs well with flowering and fruiting trees - azalea, quince, crabapple - where the blue makes blossom color pop. Maples in fall color are a classic match too.
Size: 12.5" x 10" x 2.5" tall
One only - when it's gone, it's gone.
