Nakano Yokizou 1st Gen Gyouzan Unglazed Rectangle Bonsai Pot 11.5"

Gyouzan (Nakano Yokizou) | Japan | Unglazed | Rectangle | Cloud Feet, Inverted Flat rim, bottom border

First-generation Nakano Yokizou work from Gyouzan doesn't come around often, and this unglazed rectangle is a strong example of why collectors chase early pieces from this lineage. At 11.5" long by 9" wide and 4" deep, it sits in a versatile mid-size range that works well for a range of formal upright and twin-trunk material — deep enough to carry some mass, wide enough to give roots room to breathe.

The details are what make this one worth stopping on. The cloud feet are cleanly executed — a touch of refinement on an otherwise austere unglazed body. The inverted flat rim and bottom border give the silhouette a quiet architectural quality without overcomplicating the line. Unglazed Gyouzan work tends to age beautifully, and a piece with this provenance will only get better with time in a collection. It carries a nail signature only — no painted chop — which is consistent with earlier production and adds to the authentication interest for serious collectors.
