Suzuki Suzan Vintage Unglazed Rectangle Bonsai Pot 17"

Suzuki Suzan | Japan | Unglazed | Rectangle | heavy patina, Flat rim, Smooth texture

Suzuki Suzan pots don't come up often, and when they do, you want the ones that look like this. The unglazed clay has developed an incredible depth of color over the years — the kind of rich, layered tone that only comes from decades of use and time, not something you can fake or rush. Up close, the surface reads almost warm, with that complex patina that serious collectors chase in aged stoneware.

The form is classic and confident: a flat rim, smooth texture, and crisp square-cut feet that give it a grounded, architectural stance. At 17" x 13" x 4", this is a substantial rectangle — generous enough to carry a mature informal upright or a wide-spreading literati, with a footprint that will balance the planting well. The throwing is assured and the proportions feel considered rather than formulaic. Chop-signed on the base.

A handmade, chop-marked Suzan in this size with this kind of patina is a legitimate find. Priced at $725.
