Tokoname Unglazed Training Pot — High-Fired Japanese Terra Cotta
Details
Build a better root system before a tree ever sees a show pot. These high-fired Tokoname training pots are deep and open-bottomed, made in Japan's best-known pottery town for the stage of bonsai where the roots are doing the real work.
Unglazed terra cotta breathes, so the soil dries evenly and roots are pushed outward instead of circling. The deep profile gives roots room to recover and build mass before a tree moves into a shallower display pot, and the weight of fired clay keeps the tree steady on the bench in a way plastic never will. A large drainage opening and pre-cut wire tie-in holes make repotting and anchoring quick. The pot a serious grower uses in the years that decide what the tree becomes.
