Yamaaki Vintage Oval Bonsai Pot | Gargoyle Feet | 16" Chop + Nail Signed

Yamaaki | Japan | Glazed | Oval | worm eaten, Gargoyle feet

There are ovals, and then there's this. At 16" x 12.5" x 5" deep, this Yamaaki is a commanding presence — the kind of pot that earns its footprint. The form is confident and clean, with the proportions that tell you immediately the maker knew exactly what they were doing. What makes it a conversation piece are the gargoyle feet: not your standard corner nubs, but an expressive sculptural choice that gives the pot a personality all its own. The worm-eaten surface texture adds another layer of character — a tactile, organic quality that only deepens the sense of age and authenticity. This is a pot that's been somewhere and done something.

Provenance is solid: it carries both a chop mark and a nail signature, the kind of double authentication that collectors look for in serious Japanese studio work. Yamaaki pots with full markings at this scale don't come up often, and this one wears it all without apology. Whether you're building a collection or hunting for the right statement pot for a large oval planting, this one's hard to argue with.
