Yamaaki Vintage Unglazed Rectangle Bonsai Pot 10" Hand Carved

Yamaaki | Japan | Unglazed | Rectangle | Flat rim, Low profile, Vintage

This is a genuine early Yamaaki — the old chop and nail signature together are a strong indicator you're looking at an original piece rather than a later production run, and that combination alone puts it in a different category from most unglazed rectangles you'll come across. The hand carved windows are a distinctive touch, and the indented corners give the profile a quiet elegance that keeps it from reading as plain. At 10" x 6.5" x 2", the low profile and flat rim make it a natural fit for a literati-style or informal upright where you want the pot to frame the tree rather than compete with it — or honestly, a chunky shohin that just wants a little more footprint.

Unglazed Yamaaki pieces from this era let the clay body do the talking, and the carved detail here adds character without feeling fussy. Marked with both chop and nail signature, which is exactly what you want to see for provenance on a piece like this.
