Bushuan Fukushige Vintage Round Bonsai Pot | Oxblood Drip Glaze

Bushuan (Fukushige) | Japan | Glazed | Round | Red, heavy drip glaze, hand carved from a solid block of clay, Pronged feet

This one's a hand-carved Bushuan piece, signed by Fukushige — chop plus nail signature, so you know exactly what you're getting in terms of attribution. It was carved from a solid block of clay rather than thrown or slab-built, which you can feel in the way the walls carry a certain solidity and intention. The three pronged feet are carved right into the body, and they've got that hand-worked character you just don't get from production ware.

The glaze is the real story here. That oxblood red runs deep and rich, and the heavy drip application means it doesn't sit flat — it moves, pooling and breaking over the carved edges in the way a good iron-red glaze should. On a piece like this, where the form itself has texture and structure, that kind of glaze behavior rewards a close look.

At roughly 5" diameter, this sits comfortably in shohin territory and would suit a compact deciduous or flowering tree that can hold its own against a pot with this much presence. Condition is consistent with a piece that's lived in a serious collection — nothing that takes away from it, everything that adds to it.

A solid Bushuan acquisition, honestly priced and well-documented for what it is.
